Integrating Community Voices: 150+ MFRC Members Vote

At Malvern Family Resource Centre (MFRC) we hold a deep commitment to our mission of being an essential and trusted Community Hub that connects, engages, and takes collaborative action to support our communities in thriving. One of our core values is co-creation and collaboration as we believe in the power of deeply engaging participants and those with lived experiences in program development and improvement.

Aligned with this value, MFRC recently held its Annual General Meeting (AGM), a significant event that brought together over 150 dedicated members of our communities. The AGM is a cornerstone of our democratic process, giving our members a voice in the key decisions that shape our organization.

Here are some of the highlights from this year’s AGM:

  • Voting on Key Decisions: All MFRC members had the opportunity to vote on crucial decisions, including the approval of updated bylaws, financial statements, the onboarding of new Board of Directors, and the approval of the MFRC Annual Impact Report. This democratic process ensures that our members are actively involved in shaping the future of our organization. We welcomed four new Board of Directors: Muna Awad, Dan Bordonali, Lloyd Rang, and Angela Hountalas.

  • Executive Director’s Report: Our Executive Director, Josh Berman, presented an update on the organization’s activities and achievements from 2023. The report highlighted the progress we’ve made in various programs and initiatives and set the stage for our goals in the coming year.

  • Celebrating Key Achievements: The AGM provided a platform to reflect on some of the key achievements from the past year. We celebrated the successes of our programs, the impact we’ve had on the community, and the milestones we’ve reached, a key success being our journey towards ensuring 100% food in all our in-person programs.

  • Stories of Transformation and Impact: Two MFRC members and community leaders shared their stories of transformation and impact at MFRC. Siva Sinnah, a community leader from MFRC’s Program for Seniors, and Alisha Arif, who spoke on behalf of her mother Kiran Arif, a community leader from MFRC’s program for newcomers, inspired the gathering with their heartfelt stories. Their journeys underscore the positive change that MFRC brings to the lives of individuals and families in our community.

  • Community Engagement and Collaboration: The AGM was a testament to the power of community engagement and collaboration. It is a reminder of the importance of involving our members in the decision-making process and recognizing the value of their contributions. The stories shared and the decisions made at the AGM reflect our commitment to working together to create a better future for all.

In addition to these highlights, it was also amazing to hear from our local politicians, including Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie, MP Shaun Chen, MPP Vijay Thanigasalam, and Councillor Jamaal Myers. Their presence and words of support reinforced the significance of our work and the strong relationships we have built with our local government representatives.

The Annual General Meeting is more than just a formal gathering; it is a celebration of our community’s collective efforts and achievements. It is an opportunity for us to come together, share our successes, and chart the course for the future. We are grateful to all our members who participated and voted, and we look forward to another year of collaboration and growth at MFRC.

Stay connected with us to continue being a part of this incredible journey of transformation and impact. Together, we are building stronger, more vibrant communities.
