Join Us in Spreading Holiday Cheer and Compassion!

As we approach this holiday season, my heart is filled with gratitude for the warmth that surrounds us. It’s a time when we come together with loved ones, cherishing moments of joy and family. Yet, my thoughts are drawn to those in our community who are grappling with the harsh reality of putting food on their tables—a struggle that knows no season.

This year, I invite you to embark on a journey of compassion and generosity that goes beyond the ordinary. Malvern Family Resource Centre (MFRC) is a vital Community Hub and charity that connects, engages, and takes collaborative action in supporting our communities to thrive. We are dedicated to combating food insecurity in Malvern and Scarborough, and we need your support now more than ever.

The challenges we’ve faced, from the initial waves of the pandemic to the relentless cost-of-living crisis, have magnified the difficulties families endure in providing nutritious meals for their loved ones. In 2023, food bank visits in Scarborough surged by 36%, painting a stark picture of the escalating need. Heartbreaking as it is, we are seeing increasing numbers of children coming to MFRC’s programs hungry.

In the past year, MFRC has prioritized its fight against food insecurity. We have expanded our reach, serving more meals through programs dedicated to children, seniors, youth, and women. Our after-school programs now serve a healthy snack to each and every child that comes through our doors each day. Our youth hubs always have food available, and we are providing more hot meals to seniors in need. Our urban and hydroponic farms are flourishing. Together with farmers, we have grown over 40,000 pounds of fresh produce that is being utilized right here in Malvern.

Your support has the power to make a profound difference in the lives of those who are struggling. By choosing to be a monthly or one-time donor, you will stand alongside us in the fight against hunger, offering a lifeline to those in need and allowing us at MFRC to build more food security programs. Your generosity will communicate a powerful message to our neighbors—that they are not alone, that compassionate individuals like you believe in a brighter future for all.

As we enter this holiday season, my warmest wishes go out to you. May it be filled with joy, compassion, and the fulfillment that comes from making a positive impact in the lives of others.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Josh Berman
