We acknowledge our African ancestors, many of whom were forcibly displaced and exploited through the transatlantic slave trade. Their stolen labour built a significant portion of the wealth and systems that shape our society today. We recognize that the legacies of slavery and colonialism continue to harm descendants of our ancestors, manifesting as systemic and individual racism. We also acknowledge the histories and atrocities that remain hidden, silenced, or erased—yet continue to shape our daily lives. We honour the visible and invisible labour of those who dedicate themselves to addressing racism and advancing the difficult, generative work of building an anti-racist future. We recognize the toll this work takes on health, well-being, and spirit, and we remain deeply indebted to those who make it possible to envision a brighter, more just world for us all.
