2023: The Best Malvern Urban Farm Year Yet
This year, the farm grew and distributed more food than ever- we estimate 50,000lbs between all of the farmers! The beautiful organic vegetables grown at the farm like beets, onions, chilis, corn, eggplants, and tomatoes were sold and donated across Malvern through the farmers’ market, the community fridge, the Malvern Food Bank, and other organizations.
In 2023, the Growing Together team started Future Farming, a youth farm skills training program. Over a 13-week program, youth ages 16-26 came to the farm to learn how to seed, transplant, weed, manage pests, and many other skills that farmers need. We got great feedback from the first group of participants and are really looking forward to continuing the program in 2024!
Our farmers came together at the end of October with friends, community members, councillors, and other agencies to clean up the farm after a very successful third growing season. Thanks to their work, we are all set for winter- a time to rest, regroup, and plan for next year. 2024 is sure to be another great year!
