Life Skills Youth Coach

This position is for the CHOICES Program under Youth Centre.

Malvern Family Resource Centre is committed to strengthening families and individuals, through inclusive and effective programs and services for children, youth, women, seniors and families in the Rouge River Riding.

Overview of Major Responsibilities of this Role

Life Skills Coaches are a positive role model to empower, and motivate youth to make informed and relevant decisions in their lives about effects of various substances. Assist with the facilitation of CHOICES Program for youth ages 12-17 years.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Set up and clean up of program space
  2. Interact with participants, Program Coordinator and other volunteers in an appropriate mature manner through table discussions/check-ins
  3. Facilitate, and provide feedback to youth during each session using the CHOICES manual
  4. Manage table group, and table talks with youth participants
  5. Engage, encourage and conduct goal-setting with youth
  6. Completing CHOICES program evaluations

Skills, Education, Experience and other Requirements

  1. Complete and Return Choices Volunteer Application
  2. Attend interview with Volunteer/Choices Coordinator
  3. Attend Mandatory Training/Orientation session(s)
  4. Sign an Oath of Confidentiality form each session
  5. Enjoy interacting, engaging, and encouraging youth
  6. Good communication skills in particular, listening skills
  7. Willingness to learn and teach others
  8. Reliable, punctual and enthusiastic
  9. Police reference check is required
  10. Must be over the age of 21 years

Commitment

  1. Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of 3 hours a week for a total of 11 weeks
  2. Attend a mandatory volunteer orientation and complete all required forms

90 Littles Road and/or off-site Neighbouring Community Agency
